Regatta time tracking app
As an organiser of a sailing competition you can benefit of the SailingMetrics app which supports you with a count down for the starting sequence as well as with the time tracking on the finish line.
Starting sequence
Typically a starting sequence is used to prepare for the start for a race. Most common is a default 5min starting sequence using the following steps:
- 5min: class flag up
- 4min: papa flag up
- 1min: papa flag removed
- start: class flag removed
The app does a countdown with this starting sequence and indicates whenever flags need to be shown or removed. It also indicates the appropriate sound signals that should be given at each step.
It is also possible to record audio during the starting sequence. This might be helpful to keep track of any boats with OCS start.
Time tracking
The finish mode of the SailingMetrics app simplifies the recording of finish times. Whenever a sailor crosses the finish line you can simply press a button to record the finish time. The app then automatically calculates the sailed time and optionally corrects the time by the specified rating system (Yardstick, Portsmouth Yardstick, etc).
It is also possible to adjust the boat or handicapping parameters for every finish, in case a sailor chooses to sail another rig or the like.
If you are unsure which of the entries is currently crossing the finish line you can also take a picture and assign the finish to the competition entry at a later stage.
